Workshop Welder / Machinist (Stainless Steel Focus)
Looking for a role where your welding skills are genuinely valued, but you can also keep your hands in machining?
We’re working with a well-established manufacturing business looking to add a Welder / Machinist to their close-knit workshop team. This is a hands-on, varied role with a strong emphasis on quality stainless steel welding, alongside practical machining work using lathes and mills.
The Role
This is not a one-dimensional job — you’ll be a key part of the workshop, balancing precision welding with machining responsibilities.
- MIG welding on stainless and mild steel fabricated components
- Producing clean, high-quality welds where finish matters
- Operating manual machinery including lathes, mills and band saws
- Supporting light CNC work where required
- Reading and working from engineering drawings and technical specs
- Inspecting your own work to maintain high standards
- Working closely with the wider team to meet production targets
(Typically a welding-led role, but with regular hands-on machining throughout the week)
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is confident in welding, but also comfortable getting involved with machining — or keen to develop further in that area.
- Strong MIG welding experience (essential)
- Experience working with stainless steel – key requirement
- Ability to produce neat, consistent welds
- Experience using manual lathes and/or milling machines
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Background in a workshop or manufacturing environment
- A hands-on, team-focused attitude with pride in your work
(Machining can be developed further if your welding is your stronger skillset)
Why Apply?
- £30–32k basic + regular overtime available
- Monday to Friday – no weekends
- 25 days holiday + bank holidays
- Supportive, down-to-earth team environment
- Opportunity to develop both welding and machining skills
- Stable business that invests in its people
This role suits someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in high-quality stainless steel welding, but also wants to stay involved in practical machining work rather than being stuck on one process all day.
