Lead Network Engineer – Northampton - Hybrid (1 day a week in the office) 5 month contract
Overview
An excellent opportunity has arisen with a global logistics & manufacturing business in Northampton. You will be responsible for leading projects, optimizing network infrastructure, and mentoring the team. This position requires extensive experience with Fortinet firewall technologies, Cisco switching, and wireless solutions, along with a deep understanding of AWS Cloud Networking. You will serve as the go-to person for technical queries, providing guidance, and driving innovation to ensure the highest level of network performance and security.
Roles & responsibilities
- Lead and manage network infrastructure projects, from planning to implementation, ensuring adherence to timelines and quality standards on a global scale.
- Assume accountability for the technical advancement, deployment, and upkeep of the network infrastructure and related services.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for routing and switching, providing guidance and best practices to the team.
- Mentor junior team members, fostering their professional growth and technical expertise.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement network solutions that align with business objectives.
- Conduct regular performance monitoring and optimization of network systems to ensure maximum efficiency and uptime.
- Guarantee the scalability, reliability, and resilience of the network, providing a robust foundation that supports mission-critical workloads, enabling seamless operation across the entire network infrastructure.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in network engineering and architecture, recommending innovative solutions to enhance the IT infrastructure.
- Participate in the network on-call rota
Essential skills & experience
- 10+ years of experience in network engineering roles, with a focus on Fortinet and Cisco technologies.
- Proven expertise in designing, implementing, and managing Fortinet firewall systems.
- In-depth knowledge of routing and switching and wireless solutions including SD-WAN.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex network issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Proven leadership abilities, with a track record of mentoring and developing junior team members.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
Desirable
- Extensive experience with AWS Cloud Networking.
- AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified Advanced Networking Specialty are highly desirable.
Package
- £350-£450 a day depending on skills and experience
