Field Engineer – BMS & Automation Systems
Location: Thanet, Kent (with UK-wide travel to client sites)

Pearson Whiffin Recruitment are seeking a highly skilled Field Engineer – BMS & Automation Systems to join a specialist engineering business based in Ramsgate. This is a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge automation, BMS integration and control solutions for high-profile clients across the data centre and advanced manufacturing sectors.
This varied role will see you working both on-site in Kent and travelling to customer facilities across the UK, providing expertise in commissioning, diagnostics, and system integration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, commission, and maintain automation, SCADA, and BMS control systems on client sites
- Carry out diagnostics, troubleshooting, and system repairs across hardware and software platforms
- Configure and program PLCs, HMIs, SCADA platforms, and industrial networking devices
- Commission and support OT Fieldbus communications (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP)
- Provide on-site client support, training, and technical guidance
- Collaborate with in-house design and software teams to deliver seamless project outcomes
- Produce accurate service reports, technical documentation, and commissioning records
- Travel across the UK, with occasional overnight stays
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in automation and control engineering
- Hands-on PLC programming skills (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi or similar)
- Strong knowledge of SCADA platforms, HMIs, and industrial communication protocols
- Experience in BMS integration and OT Fieldbus systems
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical schematics
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on site
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
- Familiarity with Python scripting for automation and system integration
- Experience with UPS, HVAC controls, or power distribution systems
- Background in commissioning within data centres or high-spec manufacturing environments
