We are working with a well-established logistics business to recruit an experienced Customs Clearance Operator to join their growing team in Birmingham.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong customs knowledge who thrives in a fast-paced freight environment and is confident managing import and export declarations end to end.
The Role
As a Customs Clearance Operator, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and compliant movement of goods through UK customs. You will prepare and submit customs declarations, maintain compliance with regulations, and liaise with key stakeholders to ensure timely clearance of shipments.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare and submit import and export customs declarations accurately and within required timeframes

Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations and international trade requirements

Process customs entries using systems such as CDS, Destin8, CNS, MCP or similar

Liaise with freight forwarders, shipping lines, and port authorities

Verify shipping documentation including invoices, packing lists, and related paperwork

Communicate with customers regarding customs procedures, duties, and shipment updates

Resolve customs issues to prevent delays or penalties

Maintain accurate records in line with regulatory requirements

Work with warehouse and transport teams to support goods movement
Required Experience
-
Experience in a customs clearance or customs declarations role
-
Strong understanding of UK import and export procedures

Experience using CDS or similar customs systems

Knowledge of tariff classification, duties, and compliance

Strong attention to detail and organisational skills

Ability to manage multiple shipments and deadlines

Strong communication skills
Desirable
-
Background in freight forwarding, logistics, or shipping operations

Knowledge of Incoterms and international shipping processes

Relevant customs or logistics qualifications
