Cargo Coordinator

I am currently seeking a Cargo Coordinator to join a busy logistics and operations team at a leading shipping organisation in Portsmouth. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in freight, shipping, warehousing, or transport who thrives in a fast-paced and customer-focused environment.
You will play a key role in managing the smooth flow of general cargo through the terminal, coordinating between customers, warehouse teams, and transport providers to ensure shipments are handled efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with customs and safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the movement of general cargo arriving and leaving the terminal, liaising with transport companies and customers.
- Maintain accurate data within the Warehouse Management System (WMS) and customer operating systems.
- Act as the main point of contact for general cargo clients, ensuring excellent communication and service at all times.
- Process and reconcile cargo documentation, including tip cards, labels, and customs paperwork.
- Support warehouse operations, including planning import and export loads, stock reconciliation, and maximising space utilisation.
- Monitor and maintain compliance with customs procedures and dangerous goods regulations.
- Collaborate with internal teams (warehouse, planning, and transport) to ensure seamless coordination across operations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement in safety, accuracy, and efficiency within the cargo operation.
About You
To succeed in this role, you should be organised, proactive, and able to handle multiple priorities in a busy logistics environment.
Essential experience and skills
- Previous experience in shipping, logistics, warehousing, or transport coordination.
- Strong understanding of import/export and customs clearance processes.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and warehouse or terminal systems (WMS/TOS).
- Confident communicator with excellent customer service and administrative skills.
- Proven ability to work independently while maintaining strong teamwork and collaboration.
- Keen attention to detail with strong problem-solving and organisational abilities.
Desirable
- Forklift licence (or willingness to train).
- Full UK driving licence.
